Let’s make hibiscus tea, let’s see how you can properly brew it with a step-by-step guide and some expert tips.
Hibiscus tea
We all know this tea is a floral tea which is made with dried hibiscus flowers. In hibiscus tea we only use the flower part of the plant, do not use any stem or leaf.
Hibiscus has a lot of health benefits. If I talk about the flavour, it has a tart flavour and dark red colour. Along with this, it has a lot of nutrients and antioxidants I mention below –
Vitamins:
- Vitamin C
- Anthocyanins – gives it the deep red color, very powerful antioxidant
- Flavonoids – like quercetin
- Polyphenols
- Beta-carotene
Other Nutrients & Minerals:
- Iron
- Calcium
- Magnesium
- Potassium
- Phosphorus
- Small amount of B-vitamins – B1, B2, B3
Step by step instruction to make hibiscus tea at home
1.Boiling water
Take a pan or electric kettle and add filtered water and bring it to a boil. Once it starts boiling, turn off the switch/flame.
2.Add your dried hibiscus petals into the water.
whenever you are making any herbal tea, never add it directly into boiling water. The high temperature will destroy all the antioxidants and nutrients. Let the water come to the level of 80 to 95 degrees celsius then add your hibiscus.
3.Let it Infuse
Let it infuse for 5minutes, after 5minutes strain the hibiscus petals and pour it into the cup and it’s ready.
Expert tips-
- Always use filtered water for your teas. becouse the taste of the water also can affect the taste of the tea.
- Always use loose hibiscus. Loose hibiscus tea is higher in quality because you can see the shape, it means it only has the dried hibiscus flower and not anything else.
- Do not add sugar if you want optimum benefit. If it tastes more tart for you then you can add a little bit of sugar but I suggest do not add any if you want to get the optimum benefit from this tea.
